Working to Build

Our central goal is the construction of a Greater Currie Community Center — a multi-purpose
facility that will serve as a gathering place for the entire community and fill a real and long-
standing need in our area. Based on a full project study completed by a North Carolina State
University graduate student, modeled after a comparable completed project in Pender County,
the full scope of the project is projected at approximately $1.2 million. That study gives us a
clear, credible picture of what a completed center would look like and how it would serve our
residents, and we are happy to share it with your office.

Every indoor and outdoor area of the completed project is designed to serve residents of all ages,
and is envisioned to include:
          • A children’s playground
          • A walking trail for residents of all ages
          • A universal-use area for sports and recreation, indoors and outdoors, designed for
              residents of all ages
          • A dedicated indoor gathering and activities space for residents of all ages
          • A kitchen with a prep area to support meal programs for residents of all ages

Our Three-Phase Plan

To make this project achievable, GCCAG is approaching it in three phases, shown below for context.
The full project budget is $1.2 million, and because of the progress
already made, the total estimated remaining cost across all three phases is approximately
$1,050,000. These figures are planning-level placeholders; we are finalizing phase-specific
estimates and will provide updated figures as soon as they are available.

Phase 1: Site Infrastructure (Almost Complete)

This phase includes the purchase of the land for the project, which GCCAG has already
completed, along with the site improvements needed to make the grounds ready for
construction. This phase is almost complete; GCCAG already has the building shell in place to
house the bathroom and water facility, and is approximately $100,000 away from completing
the interior build-out and remaining site work:

     • Land purchase — complete; GCCAG owns the project site
     • Sewer and plumbing lines — installed and complete
     • Bathroom and water facility building — building shell already in place; the bathrooms
and water fixtures inside still need to be built
     • Septic system — in place, but needs to be connected to the bathroom and water facility
     • Outdoor lighting — partially installed; additional lighting is still needed
     • Water service — available on site but not yet fully completed

Completing this final $100,000 of work is the last step before GCCAG can move forward with
confidence into building construction.

Phase 2: The Community Building

With the site infrastructure complete, the second phase is construction of the community center
building itself — including the indoor gathering and activities space for residents of all ages, and
the kitchen with a prep area to support meal programs. This phase represents the heart of the
project: the physical structure that will house GCCAG’s programming year-round.

Phase 3: The Outdoor Area

The final phase completes the full outdoor grounds: the children’s playground, the walking trail,
and the universal-use outdoor sports and recreation area for residents of all ages. Once
complete, this phase rounds out the Greater Currie Community Center into the full, all-ages
destination our community envisions.
